I'm interested in Wizardry 1 to 8 but not Wizardry Online, although the mention of permanent death is interesting. The Wizardry Online trailer has a great bit at the start transitioning from how it looked in the first games, then more sophisticated outlines, and then full CGI. My preference is for the sophisticated outlines. There's something more evocative out the outlines that fires my imagination in a way the the CGI and modern graphics do not.
